What is a Physical Therapist?

Physical therapists are highly trained clinical professionals who are educated at the college or university level. Therapists are required to be licensed by the Board of Physical Therapy in the state or states in which they practice. As of January 2002, the Commission of Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) limited accrediation to the educational programs that award a post-baccalaureate degree. Currently, physical therapy graduates around the country are being awarded the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree.

Physical Therapists

  • Restore, maintain, and promote not only optimal physical function but optimal wellness and fitness and optimal quality of life as it relates to movement and health.
  • Prevent the onset, symptoms and progression of impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities that may result from diseases, disorders, conditions or injuries.
